Salt and Cedar Guest House is a bed and breakfast tucked into a quiet cove in Ucluelet, BC. The building houses 3 guest suites, an open lounge and commercial kitchen area for cooking classes and events, and a private owner’s suite.
To address the issue of local qualified labour shortages in the Ucluelet area, off site construction methods were used. The project utilizes an ICF foundation, and pre-fabricated construction for above grade elements including wood stud wall panels, floor and roof systems. The panels were assembled in a factory in Squamish, BC, and brought over to the island to be erected on location.
Bright, beachy finishes were chosen to match the coastal aesthetic, and careful attention was given to selecting a combination of natural and man-made materials for their durability, in particular due to salt spray coming off the ocean.
