The Laskin is a craft brewery, boutique hotel, restaurant, and event venue set along the Elbow River in the hamlet of Bragg Creek, Alberta. The project marries the local western town heritage and earthy material palette with a refined building form in a Rocky Mountain Modern Aesthetic.
The project is able to combine these four distinct uses within a single building on a tight site by collaborating closely with a code consultant and building officials at Rocky View County to satisfy building code requirements. Alternative solutions will be employed to meet exiting requirements without the need for an additional exit stair. The building will be constructed out of mass timber in order to meet the requirements of noncombustible construction, while staying true to the ethos and aesthetic intent of the project.
Due to the small lot size, the team negotiated with the AHJ to locate a portion of the required vehicle parking at an offsite parking lot a 3 minute walk away.
